Glaciers are called breen in Norwegian, as is the Negribreen glacier situated in the Spitsbergen Archipelago, north of the Arctic Circle – the area governed by Norway. Negribreen, named after an Italian geographer Christoforo Negri, covers barely 1900 square kilometres. Its ice creeps far into the sea like a huge flat pancake. (aerial view)
