Sea water does not freeze at zero degrees Centigrade because of salinity, but at around 1 to 2 degrees Centigrade below zero. In spring, sea ice breaks into countless floes. Icebergs, however, are parts of the big Greenlandic glacier mass made of fresh water ice (snow that froze to ice). This huge iceberg is a part of the famous Jakobshavn Glacier, which is situated in its proximity. (aerial view)
