Tagliamento, Fruili, Italy/Water

The Tagliamento is presumed to be the king of the Alpine rivers. It is the last wildwater river in the whole mountain range. Its waters, varying in colour between turquoise and emerald green, flow through the river bed, which is up to 2000 metres wide. The Tagliamento transports mostly limestone gravel from the Southern Alps to the Mediterranean Sea. The gravel appears luminous because it is permanently tossed by the water. (aerial view)
