Liverpoolland 02, East Greenland/Arctic

The rock of this mountain was deposited as sand and silt on an ancient ocean floor more than one billion years ago. Later it was pressed deep into the earth crust, folded and heated and then uplifted. Today a thick layer of sea ice encloses the mountain in winter time. Ice floes rub against the rock in summer time. (aerial view)
