Together with Fitz Roy it belongs to the very famous mountains at the rim of Campo Hielo Sur, Chile's  huge southern icefield. Cerro Torre - Spanish name for "tower mountain - is built of granite and it is 3130 metres high. Its very high and extremly steep walls are always again a challenge for mountain climbers.
