The dark Huns Mountains, cut by deep canyons, are situated in south Namibia. Rare rainfalls have carved the canyons in the age-old rock, which deposited in an ancient ocean near Africa layer by layer 500 million years ago. The remains of prehistoric animals and plants give the 600-million-year-old rock its dark grey and brown colours. (aerial view)
