Approximately 2000 years ago large volcanic eruptions took place in the famous Death Valley. Ash clouds shot out of the crater and discharged its cargo all over the place. Now a desert of volcanic ash covers the Ubehebe Crater area. The region's rare but heavy rainfalls have since carved out the the present landscape. (aerial view)
