When the glaciated volcano Eyjafjalla erupted in the spring of 2010, it did more than just blast dark ash clouds into the sky and paralyse air traffic as far down as Southern Europe. For several weeks, the heat from the eruption caused large amounts of ice to melt and evaporate. (aerial view)
