Marsabit, Kenya/Volcanoes

There are more than 200 craters on the flat flanks of Marsabit, a shield volcano, which rises about 1,000 metres above the Chalbi Desert in northern Kenya like a green island. The volcano’s rock acts like a sponge: It stores enough rain water from the sparse rainfalls, making the cultivation of the land possible. (aerial view)
